Millions of children live without parental care or are at risk of losing it. SOS Children’s Villages’ development cooperation aims to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive into a strong, independent adult in a stable and safe environment.
As part of the international SOS Children’s Villages federation, we work globally to support the wellbeing of vulnerable children, young people, and families. Our development cooperation focuses on long-term, sustainable solutions that improve children’s living conditions and offer them the chance of a secure and independent future. Our goal is lasting change in the lives of the most vulnerable children, youth, and families.
SOS Children’s Village Finland promotes the rights and wellbeing of children and families in Tanzania, Ethiopia, Gambia, and India, in close cooperation with local SOS Children’s Villages. The projects are funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, corporate partners, and other international donors, and focus on promoting gender equality and children’s rights. Our core objectives include reducing poverty, improving access to education and livelihoods, and strengthening sexual and reproductive health and rights. We place particular emphasis on ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow into a strong, independent adult who knows their rights.
SOS Children’s Villages’ development cooperation aims to ensure that every child can grow up in a safe and caring environment – and develop into a strong, independent adult. Together with local SOS Children’s Villages, we create environments where children and young people are given the best possible foundation for life.
We support families and communities by strengthening their capacities and opportunities to care for their children. Our goal is to build sustainable wellbeing, where families receive the support they need, and children can grow up safely – without the fear of being separated from their families.
We work both with families and at the structural level of society to ensure that children’s rights are realized in practice. Strong and sustainable systems are essential to guarantee that every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and develop their skills to their full potential.
We provide support to both young people and their caregivers in accessing education, employment, and sustainable livelihoods. Education and economic independence are key to preventing marginalization and building a more stable future.
We also invest in strengthening local education systems to ensure that children receive quality education and the tools they need for a better future. Education is not only a right – it is a crucial driver of child wellbeing and societal development.
In Ethiopia, we aim to reduce poverty and improve the wellbeing of women and children in particular, while promoting gender equality. We support caregivers in strengthening their livelihoods and parenting skills, improve school infrastructure, and promote child-friendly and inclusive teaching methods. The projects are funded by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
In Tanzania we promote the wellbeing and rights of young girls, boys, and mothers. Our work addresses inequality, gender- and child-based violence, poverty, and challenges related to sexual and reproductive health and rights. The project is funded by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
In the Gambia we promote the rights of the most vulnerable women and young people to advance gender equality and sustainable livelihoods. We support youth education and employment opportunities through vocational training, career guidance, and internships. The project is funded by the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
In India, we promote children’s access to education. We support families in acquiring learning materials to ensure that no child is left out of school due to a lack of school supplies. We also strengthen parents’ knowledge and skills so they can better support their children’s education. The project is implemented through corporate partnership.
