Peer support for young people and adults
Ylitse offers peer mentoring for people over the age of 17. Peer mentors support you confidentially and provide peer support based on their own lived experiences. You can choose a mentor that best suits your needs and receive long-term support regardless of time or place.
Mentors are trained volunteers who respond according to their own schedules. Remember, for serious issues, you should always seek professional help.

Someone to talk to and advice
You can chat anonymously with peer mentors trained by SOS Children’s Village about whatever is on your mind. A peer mentor can be a conversation partner, an understanding listener, or someone to walk beside you through different situations in life.
However, keep in mind that peer mentors are experts by experience. For serious issues, you should always seek professional help.
The mentors are volunteers from SOS Children’s Village and social sector organizations. They are available according to their own schedules.
Read through the mentors’ profiles and choose one that suits you based on shared experiences or other connecting factors. Agree on a meeting time in the app or message each other whenever it suits you both best.

Background of the development
The app was designed and developed together with young adults who have transitioned out of foster care, as part of the Ylitse project between 2016 and 2019. The goal was to create new kinds of support services for those moving into adulthood from child welfare placements.
Cooperation has also taken place with the following partners:
Peer mentoring is open to anyone over 20 years old who speaks English or Finnish. You can choose which problems you want to help with, create your own profile and help at the times you want.
Remember that helping work always requires a stable life situation and a commitment to the values of SOS Children’s Villages.
