Emergency
response

We are there before, during, and after a disaster

We support children and families during armed conflicts and natural disasters – wherever help is needed the most.

Children and young people are the most vulnerable in humanitarian crises. Those without adequate parental care face an even greater risk of violence, exploitation, abuse, and neglect. Traumatic experiences can leave deep scars on their mental health and affect their development in the long term. That’s why, in times of crisis, children need safety, care, and stability above all.

When war or natural disasters threaten the lives of children and families, we act quickly to bring them to safety and support their recovery. Thanks to our global network, we can launch humanitarian aid programs rapidly and effectively wherever the need is greatest. Our long-term presence in communities helps us understand local needs, find the right partners, and provide impactful assistance.

SOS Children’s Villages is committed to ensuring that the most vulnerable children are not left alone in emergencies.

Our response

SOS Children’s Villages’ humanitarian aid focuses on protecting the well-being of children and young people and strengthening their resilience. Our goal is to prevent family breakdown, provide temporary care, and support recovery after crises.

With the support of our donors, we provide comprehensive assistance during emergencies. We deliver essential supplies such as food, clean water, and medical care, while also ensuring that children remain safe and their education continues. We offer psychological first aid and trauma counselling to help children cope with the fear and anxiety caused by war and crisis situations.

For children who have been left completely alone, we provide family-based care and temporary shelter to ensure they receive the protection and nurturing they need. Whenever possible and safe, we work to reunite children with their families.

Emergency aid is often just the first step. Our long-term support helps the most vulnerable children and families build a new beginning.
