Standing together for children and families

SOS Children’s Village is an international child welfare organization whose mission is to support children and families in the most vulnerable situations, both in Finland and around the world.

We are a non-profit expert and service provider in child protection, offering assistance and high-quality services to wellbeing services counties and families. SOS Children’s Village has been operating in Finland since 1962 and is a member of the international SOS Children’s Villages organization, which operates in over 130 countries.

Our strategy

At SOS Children’s Villages Finland, we work nationwide. Our vision is to support as many children and young people as possible to grow to their full potential.

Our work has two corner stones: Preventive work that provides low-threshold support for children, young people, and families in Finland and internationally and child protection services in collaboration with wellbeing services counties.

We engage in advocacy work to ensure the realization of children’s rights and to improve the status of families in society.

SOS Childrens’s villages in Finland

SOS Children’s Village began its work in Finland in 1962 as a pioneer and trailblazer in the field. With that same spirit of innovation, we continue to operate as a child protection expert and service provider in Finland, and internationally through sponsorship programs, development cooperation projects, and emergency aid.

Organization

In Finland, the SOS Children’s Village entity consists of the SOS Children’s Village Foundation and the SOS Children’s Village Association.

The SOS Children’s Village Foundation is responsible for children’s village operations both in Finland and internationally, while the SOS Children’s Village Association functions as a civic organization and also supports the work of the Foundation.

The CEO of SOS Children’s Village Finland is Siina Saksi. Piia-Noora Kauppi serves as the Chair of the Board of the SOS Children’s Village Foundation, and Pekka Koskinen is the Chair of the SOS Children’s Village Association.

The organization employs approximately 450 staff members.

Finance

The majority of revenue from children’s village operations comes from service fees paid by wellbeing services counties for child protection services. In addition, income is generated through fundraising, as well as investment and financial activities, and various grants.

All income from SOS Children’s Village operations is directed toward promoting the wellbeing of children and families. We do not seek profit, nor do we distribute profits to private individuals.

Personnel expenses account for more than half of the costs of children’s village operations. Other expenses mainly consist of service fees and care-related costs in foster homes.

Sustainability

Responsibility is the foundation of all our work. We are currently developing and strengthening our sustainability efforts.

Our foster care, support family services, family rehabilitation, the specialized children’s home Rauha, and the basic-level children’s home Kirre have all been awarded the SHQS quality recognition.

Our 24/7 services, residential units Kirre and Rauha, as well as our Kumpulantie office, have been granted the EcoCompass certificate.

Our impact

We meet and support tens of thousands of children and young people in Finland every year.
